How sweet is this face?!
I picked up sweet Fergie from transport in Moosup CT during a full on snowstorm. Seeing as this has been the mildest winter we've seen in New England in my lifetime, it was ironic that the one Saturday I needed to travel was when the snow was flying.
Fergie and I bonded deeply on the 2 hour ride home from CT, his head in my lap just looking for reassurance. For those of you who don't know, Southern Rescue dogs have a long journey in a kennel on a truck to get up North where they have a better chance at being adopted. The trip can be more traumatic for some dogs than others. Fergie was exhausted, stinky and grateful to be laying with his head in my lap and I was just as grateful to be there for him.
My dog Roxy gave him a hard time from the start, but we lived through it. Ferguson was my shadow, and was depressed when I was not at home with him. This little guy was just craving love and attention. A few short days later I brought Fergie to meet a lovely older couple who had applied to adopt him. I knew they would fall in love with him at first sight, so he came with me to do the house visit. YUP! Judy fell in love before we finished walking through the door! That next day, she finished her paperwork, made her adoption donation, and I brought Ferguson to her house to stay that night. Judy is semi-retired and is not away from the home much. Ferguson is going to have so much love and attention! I have already gotten updates from her. All of her NINE grandchildren adore him, and of course, Fergie adores them, too. I melt! <3
The experience was so lovely and profound. It was very hard to let him go, even after only having him a week. He left a paw print on my heart, and I will remember him always as my first foster. We will foster again, but for now I'm not ready.
Have a beautiful life my sweet Ferguson!
